MOST people would be content with running around the block for their daily exercise – but not Jenna Laycock.
This 25-year-old has taken on the challenge of running 30 kilometres per day for 30 days through Tasmania, Victoria and New South Wales all in the name of The National Breast Cancer Foundation.
She began her journey on 2 July in Bruny Island, Tasmania and will finish on 31 July in Sydney by completing the M7 Cities Marathon – and last Tuesday she breezed through Williamstown.
The Yarraville resident said she’s been obsessed with running for years and wanted to use her passion to support a good cause.
“I’ve had a lot of friends who have suffered from the disease,” she said.
Jenna said she’d be training hard for the challenge, running 80 kilometres per week in the lead up but hadn’t always been as fit as she is today.
“I was overweight as a teen – I hated running then.”
“No one thinks they’re going to be good at it – but I got good.”
To undertake the run, Jenna had to take a month off work – and being self-employed, did so off her own back.
The personal trainer said she hoped her journey wouldn’t just raise money and awareness for breast cancer but encourage others to get active and fit.
“Everyone is capable of doing 30 minutes of exercise a day – it doesn’t have to be 30 kilometres.”
