Burglars hit Altona North

RACV’s Home Services analysis of Victorian crime statistics has revealed Altona North as the most commonly burgled suburb in Hobsons Bay.
One in 56 houses was burgled in Altona North between 2009 and 2010.
However Altona and Seaholme faired the best with only one in 131 houses being burgled during the same timeframe.
One in 63 homes were burgled in Laverton and Altona Meadows and one in 64 in Newport and Spotswood.
Williamstown copped one in 87 burglaries, ranking just below Altona and Seaholme.
RACV Home Services General Manager Peter Brindley said that while regional areas continue to have a lower risk of burglary than Melbourne’s suburbs the gap is closing.
“We are also seeing a changing profile of burglaries within Melbourne with Mernda/Doreen in Melbourne’s outer northern suburbs moving from fifth spot last year to number two, while Deer Park, Hoppers Crossing and Broadmeadows/Dallas are new to the list,” he said.
However in Hobsons Bay, no suburb made the list of top 40 suburbs with the highest home burglary rates in Melbourne.
Deer Park made number three on the list with one in 28 houses being burgled and Hoppers Crossing was number six with one in every 32 homes being burgled between 2009 and 2010.
