THE artistic talents of students from a Sunshine West school shone at an exhibition and music showcase last week.
Marian College held a concert and displayed pupil’s artworks, much to the delight of elderly residents from Wornack Aged Care in Sunshine who visited the school on Friday to view the exhibition.
Two Year 8 students, Samantha and Emily, had their art featured in the show.
Emily, 14, had sketches, a pencil case, a ceramic pot she made for her mother and a wooden box she made for her father included in the exhibition.
“It has a soccer trophy on the top with his name on the bottom showing his love and skill that he has for soccer,” she said.
“I love art because I get to show my creative side. Art is a great way to express yourself.
“My favourite part of art is showing my personality through my artwork.
“I have been creative ever since I was little.”
While she was in kindergarten, Emily drew a picture of herself and her sister which went on to become the pre-school’s official logo – and still is today.
Samantha, 13, has six entries in the college’s art showcase including a variety of self-portraits.
“I think that the main purpose this art exhibition is to show the members of the school and their parents, that they have a natural talent in art,” Samantha said.
“This is my second year at Marian and I was at last year’s exhibition as well, and also had some artwork entered.
“I loved looking around and seeing the other side of people that I had not discovered before.
“I loved looking at all that older girl’s artworks and seeing what I may be doing in the future.
“I think every year the exhibition just keeps improving because there is always room for improvement.”
