Boost for 100 projects

MORE than 100 projects across the municipality have been allocated a share of $180,000 as part of Hobsons Bay City Council’s 2014 Community grants program.
A total of 103 projects will share the grant money provided by the council to community groups and organisations each year.
Hobsons Bay mayor Sandra Wilson said the program highlighted the council’s commitment to building a “skilled, connected, inclusive and resilient community”.
Projects funded include those that were well connected to the local community and would also support the key priorities of the council’s Community Health and Wellbeing Plan 2013-2017.
“The 2014 projects are very diverse, from supporting community gardens, celebrating national days and helping kindergarten projects, to activities for seniors.” Cr Wilson said.
“This year’s program includes a contribution of $20,000 from Toyota’s corporate citizenship program and this support is a reflection of its role as a valued corporate citizen.”
Several projects focus on priority areas in Laverton, Altona Meadows and Altona North and address projects for homeless young people and strengthening volunteerism in Hobsons Bay.
“Supporting and encouraging volunteerism is important to me and I am delighted that the Community Grants Program gives the council the opportunity to support and reward our volunteers.”
The council held a Community Grants Program event to celebrate the achievements of the 2013 funded projects and congratulate the 2014 grant recipients last Saturday.
