Library moves house

BRIMBANK City Council will spend $750,000 to temporarily relocate the Sunshine Library and Customer Service Centre across three years.
The library will be moved so construction can begin at the present Sunshine Library, making way for the $55 million Brimbank Community and Civic Centre project.
Once complete, the centre will house the council’s employees and include new community space.
In the meantime, the Sunshine Library will move to an administration building in McCracken St.
The Customer Service Centre will be transferred from Hampshire Rd to the present council offices in Alexandra Ave, Sunshine.
Chair of the Brimbank administrators, John Watson, said the Community and Civic Centre would include a revamped library space.
“Prior to the library and customer service centre relocating, council will undertake a significant campaign to ensure the community is informed of the changes and when they are happening,” Mr Watson said.
The council has also adopted the terms of reference for a community reference group which will advise on the consultation of the future use of the Keilor municipal offices.
Staff located at the Keilor site will move to the Brimbank Community and Civic Centre in Sunshine, once construction finishes by the estimated completion date of June 2016.
The council has proposed seeking expressions of interest from potential community reference group members this month.
Earlier this year, the Keilor Village Traders’ Association called on Brimbank City Council to also establish a community hub in their suburb.
The association’s Elisa Fois-Sciberras said when council staff left the Keilor council offices, the spot would be ideal for a hub.
“It is really something the majority of Keilor residents want and will utilise when it is there,” she said.
“It would really create a sense of community pride. I think it’s really crucial that it does happen.”
