Re-use and recycle at park

MORE than 200 recycled fence posts will be installed at a new play area in Brimbank Park in East Keilor.
Parks Victoria will erect the posts, which have been milled from salvaged Cypress Pines in Albert Park.
Parks Victoria has also recovered hundreds of special brick pavers that were individually inscribed by local community members back in the 1980s to connect a pathway through the new play space.
The rubber soft-fall material which will be laid under the park’s play equipment will be made from shredded car tyres.
Crushed rock road base which has been salvaged from the section of roadway demolished to make way for the new play space will be re-used as base material under pathways.
“Recycling is part of our Healthy Parks, Healthy People philosophy,” Parks Victoria ranger in charge Tim Carver said.
“Re-using what we already have here and recycling building materials is not just smart and economical, but it’s also a way of demonstrating our commitment to caring for the environment.”
The project has been funded by the State Government in partnership with Variety, the Children’s Charity, the People and Parks Foundation and John T. Reid Charitable Trusts.
