MELTON residents are encouraged to enjoy a range of festivities over the next week to celebrate Harmony Day.
The council will be celebrating cultural diversity in the municipality with two free events in Caroline Springs and Diggers Rest where people can experience different activities and performances and enjoy international foods.
Mayor Kathy Majdlik said Harmony Day is particularly important in the City of Melton, which is not only one of the fastest growing municipalities but also one of the most multicultural.
Cr Majdlik said the day will also commemorate the United Nation’s International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.
Residents are invited to visit the Caroline Springs Leisure Centre where there will be performances by Chinese, Filipino, South Sudanese, Ethiopian, Sri Lankan and Indian community groups, as well as the Cultural Harmony Choir.
On 25 March there will be another event at the Diggers Rest Family Services Centre, which will include performances by community groups, an Ethiopian coffee ceremony and an Indian cooking demonstration.
