MELTON Police station is now home to one more coveted shield after the men and women in blue outran speedsters from the Melton Fire Brigade.
The annual race took place during the Relay for Life last month when emergency services across Melton came together to raise more than $83,000 for the Cancer Council.
Leading Senior Constable Jasmine Hill said at the end of the charity event Constable Andrew Trimboli donned his Captain America suit and took on other runners in the annual Midnight Mascot Race and was victorious.
Leading Sen Const Hill said the win was particularly pleasing as there is a growing rivalry between the two groups.
“We were very happy (to win),” she said.
“Every year we have a barefoot bowls competition and the fireys have always won, so it was good to get one back.”
The shield will hold pride of place at the station for the next 12 months and then will be up for grabs at next year’s Relay for Life once again.
