TALENTED young residents from the West and further afield will show their designs on the catwalk at the Fashion Awards Australia in Taylors Lakes on 13 September.
Last week, 17-year-old Werribee resident Sarah posed in a fabulous floral frock to promote the event, which will be on at the Lakeside Banquet and Convention Centre.
Sarah studies at Acting Turnbull Acting (ATA) in Williamstown and said she hoped to pursue a career as a performer, journalist or photographer after finishing her Year 12 studies.
Sarah said she would like to become a professional actress, but knows pursuing a career in the entertainment industry can be tough.
“When I was a lot younger I did a few acting classes, but I was quite shy and never quite came out of my bubble,” she said.
Then this year, Sarah’s friend introduced her to ATA’s adult classes – and she has not looked back since.
Sarah said she enjoyed learning skills such as improvisation at the acting sessions.
“It’s about thinking on your feet and you have to come up with good things on the spot,” Sarah said.
She said hearing the laughter of her fellow acting pupils was good encouragement.
“That’s the best moment, so that’s what we all try and do,” Sarah said.
“I do really enjoy dramatic parts because I think that’s what touches people the most.”
