The Mayor of Hobsons Bay mistakenly publicly named Member for Williamstown Wade Noonan MP as a signatory on a petition, which he never signed.
At the last council meeting, the council received several petitions including one from Noordenne Estate Resident’s Group calling for traffic lights to be installed at the intersection of Millers Rd and Noordenne Ave in Seaholme.
Receiving the petition, Mayor Michael Raffoul said: “I’ll read the petition out, 200 signatures also Mr Wade Noonan, I believe…”
His belief was verified by Deputy Mayor Tony Briffa who brought the petition to the council.
Upon reading this newspaper, which reported on the petition last week, Mr Noonan contacted the council to confirm that his name was not on the petition after being concerned his signature may have been forged.
The council has confirmed that Mr Noonan’s signature was never on the petition, but the cover letter on the petition was addressed to Mr Noonan, which may have caused the confusion.
