TAYLORS Lakes is coming off a tough year in the Essendon District Football League.
The club was struck down with injuries to key personnel, struggled to find appropriate training grounds and subsequently lost its spot in A Grade.
However, as another pre-season starts, all that is in the past. The Lions have refocused their attention on a successful 2012 as they begin the climb back up the EDFL divisions.
Like a number of rebuilding clubs, Taylors Lakes will put its faith in youth. A number of its players having already experienced the rigours of A Grade football and know what it will take to get back there. Each time the Lions ran onto the ground in 2011, between 14 and 16 of their 22 man playing group was aged below 21.
These players, together with a number of off-season recruits, will be the club’s next generation of stars.
President Troy Newton said a number of last season’s problems had been fixed and the club would be looking to consolidate before making a return to the top division within three years.
“The ground is in pretty good condition compared to where it was last year so we shouldn’t have any issues there,” he said.
“At the moment the aim next season is to play finals. We aren’t setting the bar too high or too low but we believe with the side we have we should be pushing for top four.”
