SEVERAL popular festivals will return to Brimbank during 2014 including the Kite Festival in Sydenham.
The annual event will be held in March thanks to a community grant from Brimbank City Council and support from the Lions Club of Taylors Lakes.
Other festivals making a splash in Brimbank this year include the February Swimming Carnival and Open Day organised by the Sunshine Swimming Club.
The Macedonian Community Celebration of Brimbank, held by the Macedonian Senior Citizens Group of West, will take place the same month in Keilor.
In March, the Brimbank Kabaddi and Indian Cultural Carnival will be staged in St Albans by the Singh Sabha Sports Club.
From 19 to 26 March, the Cultural Diversity Week @ Scope will be on in St Albans.
Later in the month, the Celebration of International Mother Language Day and Bangladeshi Ekushey-Mela (Fair) will be organised in Sunshine by the Sunshine Bangla Language School.
March will be a busy month for residents, with the Rotary Club of Brimbank Central Family Fun Festival also scheduled to take place.
During April, the Lankan New Year and Cultural festival 2014 will provide fun for all the family in Deer Park thanks to the Western Victoria Sri Lankan Buddhist Association.
Deer Park will also host the Santa Marija Assunta Traditional Village Festa, organised by the Santa Marija Assunta Association, during August.
In the second half of the year the Brimbank Writers and Readers Festival, the Kids Day Out in Brimbank and the Brimbank Seniors Festival will be held by the council.
Chair of the council’s administrators John Watson said the wide variety of festivals would celebrate Brimbank’s diversity.
“In 2014 and onward, the council will increasingly look to support community-based events to further enhance them rather than events just organised by the council itself,” he said.
