A BRILLIANT 81 from Aaron Maynard guided Altona to an impressive win against Bayswater in the Victorian Sub-District Cricket Association on Saturday.
The A’s were set 197 for victory after Bayswater won the toss and chose to bat at Frank Kirk Oval.
Before he could do any damage with the bat, Maynard made his presence felt with the ball, taking 2/36 from nine overs to be the pick of the Altona bowlers.
He was well supported by Andrew McCammond (1/31) and Lee Elmore (1/24).
The run chase got off to a solid start for Altona with opening pair Adam Brown and Timothy Collins laying a solid base.
The pair added 39 for the first wicket before Collins was joined in the middle by Maynard.
Altona was then able to take control of the match with the first wicket partnership guiding the score to 1/108.
Despite the back-to-back loss of Collins and middle order batsman Craig Duff, Altona remained in control.
The A’s secured the win in the 41st over for the loss of just four wickets.
Maynard’s score of 81 not out continues what has been a brilliant season for the number three batsman.
Maynard sits on top of VSDCA east/west run scores list with 420 runs for the year at an average of 70.
Saturday’s result is Altona’s fifth win of the season and moves the A’s into fifth spot on the VSDCA ladder.
When round 10 kicks of this weekend, Altona will take on Box Hill.
Also on the weekend, Williamstown secured its second win of the year after defeating Endeavour Hills.
The Seagulls were set 145 for victory and reached the target for the loss of just one wicket.
In other VSDCA results, Mt Waverley defeated Melton, Werribee got the better of Croydon, Sunshine fell to Noble Park and Yarraville came up short against Box Hill.
