THE new pedestrian concourse over Sunshine Railway Station has been opened as part of the $4.8 billion Regional Rail Link project.
The RRL’s Footscray – Deer Park Alliance general manager Brad Jackson said the new concourse was a key stage of the project.
“I am delighted the new station concourse is open, providing safer and more spacious access across the rail corridor for the Sunshine community,” Mr Jackson said.
“The new concourse is well lit and fully accessible through stairs, lifts and ramps. It is a huge improvement on the old station underpass, which is now closed.
“There is still more to do at Sunshine railway station and completing the concourse now allows us to continue this work.
“I am excited to have reached this important milestone, which will benefit everyone travelling through the station and make it more welcoming place to be.”
Perforated screens have been incorporated into the concourse, depicting the indigenous plant life of the area including the Sunshine Diuris orchid.
