Cops nab copper thieves

IN the early hours of Saturday 11 February, Altona North Police arrested two male offenders for the alleged theft of about 200 kilograms of copper cable.
The cable was allegedly stolen the previous day, where it is believed the men used power tools and a blow torch to remove the cable then drove off in a vehicle with false number plates.
Police reminded residents to report any suspicious behaviour by calling 000.
Police also attended a fire at a residential unit at Laverton on that same Saturday.
The premises was extensively damaged by the blaze.
As a result of the police investigation a 41year-old female was been charged with arson.
Police are calling on residents to report any information regarding burglaries or thefts police by using a Report Crime Online Form or by calling Crime Stoppers on 1800 000 333.
Meanwhile, thieves stole two motorcycles from an Old Geelong Rd store in Hoppers Crossing on 9 February, and then fled the scene on the back of their new bikes.
Wyndham detectives are investigating the burglary, which occurred between 3.20am-3.30am, after two offenders used a large bin to shield them from view as they broke into the shop.
