ENCHANTED by Books isn’t any ordinary book store- it’s a vibrant and colourful place where children can explore and discover a passion for literacy.
Now in its fourth year, the speciality children’s book store caters for more than just books — it has opened up a whole new world of fun.
“We have quite a range of things for sale in the store, all the fun stuff, from children’s books to jig saw, games, wooden toys, clowns, paints and art and craft packs and things to take home and build,” she said.
Ms Nardo said the shop would trial a new 45-minute arts and craft workshop over the Queen’s Birthday weekend for kids aged 3-7 at a cost of $15.
“The activity involves cutting, gluing, painting, sticking, just things that kids really enjoy doing.”
Enchanted By Books will also hold the workshops over the next school holidays, and if all goes well it will be a regular activity throughout winter.
“The activities are designed for the kids to do independently, but because we are not a childcare facticity we like to have parents there involved.”
Story time is another popular activity held at the shop every day from Tuesday through to Friday at 10.30am.
The store also holds a special foreign language story time, which is an easy way to introduce children to a foreign language, Ms Nardo said.
Ms Nardo said she struggled with reading as a child, but when she discovered there were different types of genres to read she remembered “the whole world exploding in front of her”.
“That’s why I opened the store, so I could help kids discover their own little niche in reading.”
“It’s a bit more of a fun environment to be in a store that specialises in children’s books because of the colour and vibrancy. I wanted to make children feel comfy around books.”
