Seagulls take off

WILLIAMSTOWN has maintained its place in the Victorian Football League’s top four after a hard-fought 30-point win over Frankston on Sunday.
The Seagulls were quick out of the blocks, opening up a 14-point margin at the first break and then extending that to 21 points at half-time.
With the game still in the balance, a five-goal third quarter shut the gate on any potential Frankston comeback with the Dolphins contained to just two goals.
Despite a fight back to start the final term, Williamstown regathered its composure to run out convincing winners, 20.11 (131) to 15.11 (101).
In just his second senior game of the year Kirby McConnon was outstanding for Williamstown, booting four goals and working hard across the ground.
He was well supported by former Western Jet and Bulldogs listed AFL players Lachlan Hunter (three goals) and Ed Carr who were also among the Seagulls’ best performers.
For Frankston, Ziggie Alwan and Michael Lourey were the leading goal scorers and finished with hauls of four and three respectively.
Sunday’s result sees Williamstown move to a 4-2 win/loss record for the season and locked on 16 points with the Northern Blues, Box Hill Hawks and Casey Scorpions.
Frankston remain in 13th spot on the VFL ladder with just two wins for the year.
Williamstown has the perfect chance to add to its wins tally this week when it takes on the struggling Bendigo Gold.
In other round six results, Collingwood defeated Geelong, Port Melbourne got the better of Essendon, Box Hill overcame Casey, Sandringham smashed Bendigo and the Northern Blues easily accounted for North Ballarat.
