THE Altona Community Bank Branch of Bendigo Bank celebrated a decade in business last week.

Community company chairman Henry Da Silva said directors had been thrilled with the steady progress of the branch and with future plans to offer more community grants and reward shareholders.

“It has been a very successful 10 years for our bank branch as local residents, traders and businesspeople continue to put their support behind the business,” Mr Da Silva said.

“Achieving $320 million in accounts also marks an important milestone for our business which includes the Laverton/Altona Meadows and Point Cook Community Bank branches.”

Senior manager of Altona Community Bank Branch, John Dawson, said he would like to thank residents for their continuing support of the branch.

“Since the day we opened the doors in November 2002, we have been committed to the future prosperity of Altona,” he said.

“Ten years on, and our commitment to supporting projects determined by the local community has only become stronger.”

The branch has supported the community project the UCAN Café, a social enterprise providing employment and professional development for young people with a disability.

The Community Bank branches have committed their staff to participate as volunteers at the UCAN Café.

“This is a great opportunity for our branch staff to give back to the community by volunteering their time to help young people with a disability to gain essential hospitality skills including customer service, cooking, money handling and coffee making,” Mr Dawson said.
