WILLIAMSTOWN cruised to victory against bottom side Endeavour Hills in round seven of the Sub-District Cricket Association on Saturday.
Williamstown’s bowling attack, led by Graham Murdoch with the incredible figures of 4/4, bowled Endeavour Hills out for just 47.
It took Williamstown just 15 overs to reach the total, with club coach Brenton Hodges (7) the only casualty of the side’s innings. Craig Sheedy was Williamstown’s top scorer with 25 not out.
Altona made it three straight wins after knocking over Bayswater by six wickets. Tim Collins got his first half century of the year with 54 runs while Christian Hewett continued his recovery from a poor start to the season with an unbeaten 37.
Altona sent Bayswater into bat after making 4/169. The positive sign for Altona was that all batsmen at least got into double figures.
Aaron Maynard was Altona’s most expensive bowler but also its most dangerous, taking 4/41 from seven overs. Lee Elmore, Craig Bancroft and Tim Collins took a wicket each. Altona has jumped to fifth on the ladder.
Werribee rose to the tough challenge of playing Croydon at Croydon, winning a hard-fought battle by nine runs.
Werribee started shakily and was 3/17 before Adam Alifraco (33) and newly promoted Kyle Andrews (34) put on a 51-run partnership to steady the innings.
Bowlers Matthew Thomson, Robbie Stonehouse, Peter Moore and David Wolfe all took two wickets each.
The Tigers looked in command when they had Croydon at 8/104, but Michael Ashton put on a spirited 27-run partnership with Nathan Ward before Ward was dismissed by Baijan Asif and No. 11 batsman Hamish Paterson was stumped off the bowling of Wolfe.
Yarraville was bowled out for 119 in its pursuit of Box Hill’s 9/157 and remains third last on the ladder. One position below that is Sunshine, which lost to Noble Park by four wickets.
Sunshine was dismissed for 120, with David Bonavia top-scoring on 34.
Sunshine’s bowling was relatively expensive, with the exception of Troy Stone (2/13), as Noble Park got the required runs in under 28 overs.
