Singing stars set for Idol

By Belinda Nolan
BRIMBANK songbirds will be whipping out their microphones and guitars when the city’s annual singing competition starts in the New Year.
Entries have opened for the 2011 Brimbank Idol competition, which has become a major drawcard of the yearly Brimbank Festival.
The competition offers young people the opportunity to showcase their talent as they compete for the coveted title and $500 prize voucher.
Cairnlea resident Sam Stark took out the top prize last year with his soulful rendition of “Ain’t No Sunshine.”
It was the first time the competition had been won by a man.
The competition is open to people aged between 12 and 24 who live, work or study in the municipality.
Entries close on 21 February with auditions to be held on 3 March.
Registration forms can be downloaded from the Brimbank Council website, which is www.brimbank.vic.gov.au.
For more information call the Brimbank Festival hotline on 9249 4600.
