DOREEN-based Laurimar Thunder will become a member of the Northern Football League (NFL) in 2011, after member clubs gave them the green light at the league’s annual general meeting.
NFL CEO Kevin Crompton welcomed the addition of Laurimar to the junior competition.
“This year we were able to field 197 teams in our under-age competition, which equates to 47 more teams than when the NFL was formed at the beginning of 2007,” Crompton said.
“With the inclusion of Bundoora Park and Laurimar – with the full backing of the fellow NFL clubs – and the adoption of the Northern Youth Girls competition, we fully expect this to grow further in 2011 and beyond.
“Each weekend we have over 4,500 players take the field in the junior competition across 24 divisions, and with the inclusion of two new clubs we feel we’re in a strong position going forward to feed not only our senior clubs, but also our junior programs, Northern Knights, and Northern Bullants as well.”
