SEVERAL events will be held across Hobsons Bay to celebrate Australia Day on Saturday 26 January.
Bunnings Warehouse in Altona has invited residents to take part in the Great Aussie Community Barbecue at the store at 290-298 Millers Rd.
All funds raised through the event will be donated to the Rotary Club of Williamstown.
The warehouse manager Kevin Dent said free family activities would run across the day, including Australia Day themed DIY workshops for adults and children.
“Australia Day is a great opportunity to celebrate our country, and by enjoying a traditional Aussie snag, residents can support a good cause and give the Rotary club of Williamstown a helping hand,” Mr Dent said.
Another patriotic event in Hobsons Bay on 26 January will be the Australia Day Breakfast from 8am at the Williamstown Town Hall.
The Lions Club of Altona and Hobsons Bay City Council will host the annual meal.
Attendees will be entertained by Australia Day ambassador and entertainer Mike Brady, famous for the football songs Up There Cazaly and One Day in September.
Australian Olympic rower Sarah Tait will also speak about how she won an Olympic silver medal in London.
Following the breakfast, the council will hold a citizenship ceremony where residents will formally take up Australian residency.
Three venues in Altona will also feature some Australia Day fun on 26 January.
There will be free activities including music, stalls and children’s activities from 10am-5pm at Logan Reserve, Weaver Reserve and Altona Beach.
On Sunday 27 January, the entertainment will continue when Aussie singer Mia Dyson performs at
Commonwealth Reserve in Williamstown from 3pm. Her opening act will take to the stage at 2pm.
