A LITTLE early morning drizzle didn’t dampen spirits as Sunshine residents turned out to celebrate their suburb’s history on Sunday.
The dark sky eased at noon as families made their way to the Kevin Wheelahan Gardens to take part in activities to mark 150 years since the establishment of local government in the suburb.
From lei making to hula dancing and African drumming, the event showcased the talent and diversity of Brimbank’s community.
Historical displays told the story of the suburb’s birth and transformation into the economic powerhouse of the war years.
The council also commissioned a series of historical cards commemorating defining moments, figures and events in the suburb’s history, which were handed out on the day.
The family day was held between 10am-4pm and also featured live music, traditional games, food stalls and a historical bike ride.
