A MAN was bashed with a hammer and metal bat during a terrifying home invasion in Albion this month.
Police say a gang of up to seven men entered the home in King Edward Ave at around 6pm on 13 March, unleashing a savage attack on one of its occupants.
Armed with a hammer, metal bat and knife the offenders confronted three men who were sitting in the lounge room. They ordered two of the occupants out of the house and began bashing the third, breaking his jaw, puncturing his lung, and causing lacerations to his face.
The 29-year-old Sunshine man was taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital where he was hospitalised for four days before being released last Thursday.
Detectives from the Sunshine Criminal Investigation Unit are investigating the incident and appealing for witnesses to come forward to help identify the men involved.
Detective Senior Constable Ray Martland told Star the men were described as being of African appearance and aged between 19-30.
They were last seen running towards Anderson Rd where they made their getaway in an unknown car at the intersection.
Det Sen Const Martland said police believed the victim may have been known to his attackers.
He said the victim did not live in the home but had been staying there temporarily while in between homes.
