Brutal axe attack

A BRUTAL attack with an axe has left a Wyndham man in hospital.
Members of the Wyndham Crime Investigation Unit arrested a 49-year-old St Albans man following the attack which occurred at about 2.30am on Wednesday 9 May.
Senior Constable Frank Cuce told Star a 49-year-old Tarneit man had suffered lacerations to his right arm and a broken right arm.
“The incident occurred in the staff car park of a Laverton North industrial business,” Sen Const Cuce said.
“The two men were co-workers, they had an altercation and the victim has been attacked with an axe.”
Police arrested the St Albans man at his house the next day, Sen Const Cuce said.
“At this stage we don’t know what the reason for the altercation was but it is in the process of going to the courts and we will find out then,” he said.
Sen Const Cuce said while the Wyndham CIU had attended many assaults with weapons, it was rare for an axe to be used as a weapon.
“It’s not that often that we attend these kinds of cases, maybe once a month, but it’s very rare that an axe is used,” he said.
The victim is believed to be recovering in a stable condition while the offender was charged and bailed to appear at the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court at a later date.
