FOR Pauline Halse, volunteering is just a part of her life, something she just loves to do.
The grandmother of seven has been a volunteer driver at the Williamstown Hospital (WH) for about two years, a volunteer driver for the Red Cross for 14 years before and 50 years ago started volunteering as a driver for MS Australia.
“I just like to drive,” Pauline said.
“I get great satisfaction from it and appreciate having my good health.”
Pauline volunteers one day a week for six hours, collecting outpatients in WH organisational vehicles from their homes and dropping them off at their appointments at the Williamstown Hospital Community Based Rehabilitation.
Pauline said she enjoys the interaction with patients as much as the driving.
“The most I drive is 140 kilometres (per day),” she said.
“I love it.”
As well as volunteering, Pauline keeps active in the community working one day a week at the Information Centre in Williamstown.
“I don’t like housework so I get out of the house as much as possible,” she joked.
“I suppose I’m lucky.”
Pauline said she would encourage others to consider volunteering at Williamstown Hospital and has recently recruited her sister to get involved.
“Four in our family are volunteering,” she said.
“That’s not a bad contribution.”
