THE annual Chocolate Cupcake Day was celebrated on Friday, much to the delight of the talented staff from the Ferguson Plarre Bakehouse in Keilor Park – including Tara Skinner.
But there are still more excuses to indulge in tasty treats approaching – such as Chocolate Day on 28 October and Buy a Doughnut Day on 30 October.
The traditional American celebrations, which started decades ago, are growing in popularity world-wide.
Ferguson Plarre has a proud history of baking gourmet goodies, but times have changed since Percy Ferguson stopped his horse-drawn deliveries and purchased his first delivery truck, a T-Model Ford in 1921.
The fifth-generation business has received many awards for its produce over the decades including 1938 when Ray Plarre took second prize for both the birthday cakes and novelty sugar work sections of the Pastrycooks Exhibitions Competition.
In more recent years, Ferguson Plarre has won gold medals for its chocolate truffle cake, baked cheesecake, Blackforest cheesecake and chocolate mousse cake at the Melbourne Fine Food Awards. 107294 Picture: KRISTIAN SCOTT
