IT’S lights, camera, action for the West’s budding film makers as the inaugural Setting Sun Film Festival puts the call out for entries.
The West is getting its very own film festival after West Footscray resident and aspiring film maker Anna Bourozikas noticed the disparity between the number of film makers across the West, and the lack of opportunities available on their home turf.
“It’s a short film festival for those of us living in the Western suburbs – anybody can enter it, but it’s just our own one,” she said.
“I’ve lived here for 12 years and I’ve seen the odd student one here and there, but I don’t really know of any here.
“There’s a lot of film makers living here in the West, particularly in Maribyrnong, and I think it’s a good way to promote our film making community. It’s something that we need here.”
There will be awards for best short feature, documentary, director, screenplay, and film for tertiary and high school students.
Non-Westies can also apply for the Best Short Feature Open category and Best Documentary.
“We’ve had a lot of community support and, hopefully, this is going to be the first of many good years.”
Films must be no longer than 12 minutes, including opening and closing credits.
The best films will be screened at Yarraville’s Sun Theatre as part of a four-day film festival run between 27 and 30 March 2014.
