EPAmoves on foul smells

THE Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is investigating reports of foul smells around Brooklyn, Yarraville and Newport.
The agency received 44 reports from residents around the area between 18 May and 24 May.
The EPA directed Brooklyn company Tasman Group in Industry Park Drive to clean up works around its livestock holding yards, and Organic Recyclers, also of Brooklyn, to process a stockpile of rotten green waste.
EPA regional manager Scott Maloney said the EPA had intensified investigations in the area to improve the control of odours.
“Over the last week a combination of weather and a range of other factors regarding particular industrial sites have led to an increase in odours and reports from the public.”
The agency encourages residents with concerns to call its pollution watch line on 9695 2777.
