THREE goalless quarters stalled Williamstown’s push up the Victorian Football League ladder with the Seagulls going down to Port Melbourne by 69 points on Saturday.
Players were greeted with wet and windy conditions at North Port Oval and it was clear from the early stages that goals would be hard to come by.
Both sides managed two majors each in the first quarter with Lukas Markovic and Christian Howard hitting the scoreboard for Williamstown and giving their team a two-point lead.
However, from there the news was all down hill for the Seagulls with Port Melbourne dominating the next three quarters.
Williamstown failed to kick a goal for the rest of the match while the Borough consistently hit the scoreboard to run out easy winners.
The 13.10 (88) to 2.7 (19) victory was Port Melbourne’s eighth for the season and sees the club improve its top four credentials in the run towards finals.
On what was a tough day for the Seagulls, Stephen McCallum worked hard to be named the club’s best player while Mark Austin and William Wheeler were also solid contributors.
For Port Melbourne, Chris Cain continued his outstanding season with another best on ground performance. He was well supported by Julian Rowe who kicked three goals to be the leading forward on the ground.
The result sees Williamstown slip to an 8-5 win loss record for the season.
When round 15 gets underway this weekend, the Seagulls will look to bounce back against 10th placed Frankston at Burbank Oval.
