TWO significant Melton organisations have been nominated for funding under the Federal Government’s Regional Development Australia Fund and Liveable Cities Program.
The Combined Churches Caring/Food Bank Services relocation and the Caroline Springs Regional Tennis Facility project have both been selected for the possible funding.
Melton City Council was recently allocated $939,118 under the programs and was required to nominate projects to be eligible to access the funding.
The council has recommended that the Combined Churches Caring/Food Bank Services receive $200,000 to assist in the relocation of the facility to an appropriate location and construction of a high standard facility.
The service is currently located on a council-owned property at McKenzie Street, Melton, which is to be redeveloped as part of the expansion of the aged care facility on that site. The council has already allocated $80,000 to the project.
Council has also recommended the balance of the available funding be allocated towards the Caroline Springs Regional Tennis Facility. The council had budgeted $200,000 towards the design of the project.
The overall estimated cost of the project which will ultimately include 12 tennis courts, eight with lighting, and a small pavilion, is $4 million.
Mayor Kathy Majdlik said the funding would significantly benefit members of the community.
“The relocation of the Combined Churches/Food Bank Service and the development of the Caroline Springs Regional Tennis Facility are priority projects for Council and the community,” Cr Majdlik said.
“We are hopeful our application will be successful to assist in the early delivery of these projects to help meet our community’s needs.”
