SPOTSWOOD navigated its way past the wet and windy conditions on Saturday to secure a 95-point victory against North Footscray.
The Woodsmen dominated the match from the outset, taking a 26-point lead into quarter time and building on the margin at every change.
The 18.20 (128) to 5.3 (33) win is Spotswood’s 11th of the season and sees the Woodsmen remain in second spot on the Division One ladder.
Chris O’Keefe was again outstanding for the winners, booting four goals in a best-on-ground effort.
He received good support from Jason Cloke and Will Langlands who combined for seven goals.
For North Footscray, Chris Peters kicked two goals while Sam Denby-Blake was among the best around the ground for the Devils.
The result sees North Footscray remain in last place on the WRFL ladder and still searching for the club’s first win of the season.
This week will see the Devils come up against top-of-the-table Deer Park while Spotswood will take on Yarraville-Seddon.
In other division one results, Altona produced a hard-fought 12-point win against Port Melbourne.
Despite entering the match as heavy favourites, the Vikings didn’t have things all their own way early and went into quarter time trailing the Colts by 13 points.
From there, Altona began to fight its way into the match and chip away at the margin.
After a tough three quarters, the Vikings took control in the final term, booting three goals-to-one to seal the 10.10 (70) to 8.10 (58) win.
Mitchell Turnbull was outstanding for the winners, kicking six goals in a best-on-ground performance.
He was well supported by Steven Kennedy who finished with two majors while Munir El Houli was dominant around the ground.
For Port Melbourne, Brad Sutcliffe provided more than a few headaches for the Vikings while Jason Butler finished the game with two goals.
The result sees Altona remain in third place on the Division One ladder with an 11-3 win/loss record for the season.
This week, the Vikings will take on Hoppers Crossing.
Elsewhere in the WRFL, Deer Park smashed Albion and St Albans got the better of Yarraville-Seddon.
