IF you saw lots of antennas and wires while walking down Battery Rd Williamstown over the weekend, then you probably saw Terry Murphy and his Amateur Radio Victoria mates celebrating Lighthouse Keepers Weekend.
Terry said the event, in which radio groups from all over the world attempt to speak to each other over the radio waves, commemorates the job that lighthouse keepers used to do.
“The goal is to talk to as
many lighthouse keepers as we can,” he said.
Terry, who has always had a passion for radio, is a strong believer in it – particularly for emergency services.
“When everything else fails – we can go in and set up communications,” he said.
