FOR many Albion residents St Theresa’s Primary School is a home away from home.
The small school has been an integral part of the tight-knit community for many decades and this Sunday it will celebrate its 60th anniversary.
From humble beginnings, the school has grown from two classrooms to a modern education facility.
Principal Rob Costin said the school has entrenched itself over time as an important part of the history of the local community and parish life.
“The school and parish have always welcomed all people from so many cultural and religious backgrounds and this has enriched the lives of all who have attended here and who will in the future,” Mr Costin said.
“The one thing that has not changed here is the fantastic people that make up the community.
“I am very confident in being able to say that every teacher, parent and student who has come through these doors has been able to leave their mark on the place and have been responsible for making it the great school that it is today.”
Parent and co-chairperson of the school board Rose Raniolo said the school provided a unique experience for its students and staff.
Mrs Raniolo, who also attended the school in the ’70s, said despite living in Taylors Lakes she decided to send her three children there because of the great experience she had as a student.
“My experience is by no means unusual. I am one of a number of former students who are now parents at St Theresa, wanting to offer our children the same quality Catholic education and care that we experienced as children at the school,” she said.
“There is a strong message of community and togetherness at the school which is priceless in terms of developing strong, healthy, confident and resilient children who are well-equipped for life.”
The school is inviting all existing, past and future students, families and parishioners to the 60th anniversary mass on Sunday 28 August at 10.30am.
A light supper will follow.
