WILLIAMSTOWN CYMS has a large run chase ahead of it this Saturday against Footscray United in the Victorian Turf Cricket Association’s North Division.
Footscray United won the toss and chose to bat on day one of the two-day clash at Fearon Reserve, and with openers Raphael Kardachi and Stuart Ainge producing a 55-run opening stand, that decision looked to be a beaut.
Several Footscray United batsmen got starts throughout the innings with Faiz Syed leading the way with 70.
Williamstown CYMS took nearly 79 overs to eventually knock over the Footscray United line-up for 237 runs.
Andrew Leetet was the pick of the bowlers with his four wickets while Fletcher Henry snared three.
One over of Williamstown CYMS’s run chase was squeezed in late in the day, but no runs were scored.
This Saturday openers Billy Millar and Elliot Artingstoll will take the crease at the resumption of the innings, needing 238 for victory.
Altona North faces a large run chase of its own away to Tullamarine this Saturday.
Eleven overs into their chase Altona North is 1/39, needing another 201 runs for victory after bowling Tullamarine out in 69 overs.
Meanwhile in the Senior Division, Spotswood began its VTCA campaign with a solid dig on day one of its clash with South Caulfield.
The Woodsmen lasted the full 80 overs to produce a sizable total of 240 at Donald McLean Reserve.
This Saturday South Caulfield will commence their run chase, needing 241 for an outright win.
