CHARDONNAY Woodleigh will bust out her best moves and get her groove on for a good cause this week.
The nine-year-old from Burnside Heights is gearing up to take part in Save the Children’s Ultimate Dance Challenge to make a lasting difference in the lives of young children around the world.
Chardonnay will get moving in the five-hour dance marathon during National Children’s week and hopes to raise $500 which will go towards helping vulnerable children survive their first five years of life.
“One thing that made me want to do this is because we learnt at school they hardly have anything over there,” Chardonnay said.
“I feel bad that they get dirty water and have to walk miles and take hours to get to school. I don’t like how they don’t get food and don’t have clean water and they can get really sick.”
The Kororoit Creek Primary School student started lessons at the tender age of five and has learnt a variety of dance styles including jazz, tap, contemporary and hip hop.
“I want to learn new things in different classes but I also want to keep doing jazz because all my friends say I am really good at it,” she said.
Her mother Georgia said Chardonnay enjoyed getting up and performing on stage and dance lessons were a great way to help keep her active.
“She’s pretty outgoing and she makes friends pretty easily. She does get shy sometimes but when she gets on stage she becomes more confident,” she said.
Chardonnay said she was eager to take on the challenge and would try her hardest to dance for the full five hours with the help of her parents.
“I am excited to do it and I am just gonna keep trying to dance as hard as I can to get more money,” she said.
