Road response

VicRoads has responded to concerns about traffic congestion on Point Cook Rd.
Last week Star published a story about Hobsons Bay City Council voting to write to VicRoads about the issue.
Cr Luba Grigorovitch said a strategy was needed to make the road safer and Cr John Hogg said the Central Ave intersection needed upgrading.
VicRoads’ metro north west acting regional director, Damien Afxentis, said VicRoads has worked with Hobsons Bay City Council to deliver a a $1.94 million package of road safety improvements on Point Cook Rd.
“The works between Seabrook Blvd and Homestead Run include pavement widening to allow for a new centre median, exclusive right turn lanes and bicycle lanes, linemarking and signage improvements, the removal of roadside hazards and an upgrade to existing safety barriers and street lighting improvements,” he said.
“Major works are now complete with finishing touches to be delivered in coming months.

“The Victorian Coalition Government recently announced that $690,000 will be spent to improve the Point Cook Road/Central Avenue roundabout near the Princes Freeway West in Altona Meadows.
“These works will better align the approaches and improve safety through new signage, street lighting and skid resistant overlays.”
