ALTONA has been an undefeated Labor seat since 1992.
However during this year’s byelection there was a hefty swing to the Liberals of 12.5 per cent.
Education has been a hot election topic in Melbourne’s West – particularly after the Liberal Party’s promise to provide a P-12 autistic school in Laverton.
Sitting Labor MP Jill Hennessy told Star her number one aim is to advocate for the building of new schools.
Liberal candidate Mark Rose told Star he believes the Labor Government has taken the western suburbs for granted.
Greens Candidate David Strangward named transport, education, health, aged care and sustainability as his top five priorities for the state.
Williamstown has been an undefeated Labor seat since 1904.
For Labor to lose the seat a 24.3 per cent swing will be needed against present Labor MP Wade Noonan.
Mr Noonan told Star education, health and crime were some of the main issues he will be focusing on if re-elected.
Liberal candidate David McConnell said one of his main focuses will be ending Labor’s open slather for suburban high rise, high density developments within 400m of transport corridors.
Greens candidate Paul Fogarty said as a traditionally safe seat, Williamstown residents are being ignored and let down by local representatives.
