THE intersection of Boundary and Palmers roads in Derrimut is the top accident spot within Brimbank, according to VicRoads statistics.
Data supplied to the Star revealed there have been 23 collisions at the site across the past five years.
The intersection had a roundabout installed during May this year, but Brimbank residents said more safety measures were urgently needed at the smash hotspot.
Sunshine Residents and Ratepayers Association president Darlene Reilly said she regularly drove on Boundary Rd, and had seen accidents along the thoroughfare.
“What we’ve observed are the speed limits are quite high, about 70km per hour,” she said.
“The speed limit probably needs to come down to about 60km and also there needs to be more traffic police booking people who do the wrong thing.”
Albanvale Residents Association spokeswoman Clare Brennan said the intersection also needed more than a roundabout.
“People are really screaming about how bad it is,” she said.
“I really feel it does need lights there.”
However, Ms Brennan said she thought the Taylors Rd–Kings Rd roundabout in Delahey was Brimbank’s worst intersection.
“The roundabout’s got to be addressed with traffic lights,” she said.
“You play Russian roulette going through there.”
In December last year, the Star reported that more than 200 people had signed a petition calling for traffic lights at the site.
However, this intersection did not make the VicRoads’ list of the top five accident sites within Brimbank.
