A WOMAN and her three children escaped tragedy when their car ran off the Western Ring Rd and travelled 120 metres down an embankment at Keilor East last Wednesday.
The 30-year-old female was driving her car towards Altona when she lost control and ran off the road just before the EJ Whitten Bridge.
Intensive care paramedic team manager Adrian Scrofani said the car crashed through the railing beside the bridge and travelled down the embankment.
“The embankment is about a 45-degree slope and the car continued for about 100 metres heading towards the water at the bottom. Thankfully it stopped about 20-metres short of another 50-metre drop into water,” Mr Scrofani said.
“The woman lost consciousness and when she came to her three children aged between four and nine were crying.”
She was taken to Royal Melbourne Hospital in a stable condition and discharged the following day. The children were taken to the Royal Children’s Hospital suffering minor injuries.
