TWO Williamstown brothers aged 18 and 22 will face charges of assaulting police after attempting to punch two female police officers at Williamstown beach on Saturday.
The women from Williamstown Police went to the beach after receiving a call about the brothers, who allegedly were drunk and displaying offensive behaviour.
Williamstown Police sergeant Peter Radford said that the men allegedly attempted to assault the women by throwing punches at them.
“The men were subdued by capsicum spray,” he said.
Police officers from Altona North, Laverton and Footscray were called to assist so the women weren’t overpowered.
The men were arrested and taken to Williamstown Police Station where one was remanded in custody and the other bailed.
They will appear in court at a later date.
Sgt Radford said they face charges of assaulting police, resisting arrest, and offensive behaviour.
