HOBSONS Bay City Council is a step closer to implementing a new community and business collaboration designed to help boost skill level and resources in local groups.
The council endorsed the guidelines for the Volition Project’s strategic working group at a public meeting last week.
The Volition Project aims to build a robust relationship between business and community in the areas of volunteering, knowledge and skills transfer, and donation of goods and services.
The Department for Victorian Communities provided $175,000 to the council to implement the project over two years from May.
Council will appoint members to the strategic working group by invitation only.
The group will consist of members from the business and community sectors, and government.
They must have a history of working in, or providing service to, communities in the municipality, or be committed to creating opportunities in the community sector.
Altona North Ward councillor Mary Ann Lindsay said the project is a really innovative idea, and limited only by one’s imagination.
“It really sparked my interest because of the principles behind it being that it’s a partnership approach,” Cr Lindsay said.
The project will focus on the most disadvantaged areas of the municipality, including Laverton, Brooklyn and Altona North.
The Volition Project will stage a Workplace Big Day Out – a one-day team based event intended as a “taster” to encourage further development within the community.
