MULTICULTURAL and ethnic clubs around Hobsons Bay last week received a funding boost as part of a program run by the Victorian Multicultural Commission (VMC).
Premier and Member for Williamstown Steve Bracks was at the Williamstown Italian Social Club on Thursday to make the announcement, along with representatives from the diverse group of ethnic clubs in the municipality.
Elhadi Gumaa from the Multicultural Sudanese Centre in Newport said the money would be used to buy computers and other equipment that will help with the daily running of the centre.
“It will make a big difference for the life of my community here in Victoria. It will make my job much easier and help the volunteers and staff.”
Mr Gumaa also paid tribute to Victoria as a place that welcomes people from all over the world.
“I believe that Melbourne and Victoria is the home of migrants here in Australia,” he said.
Mr Bracks congratulated multicultural communities for their contribution to Victoria.
“Victoria’s cultural diversity is one of our greatest assets,” he said.
