PHOTOGRAPHER Georgia Metaxas continued making the rounds in Hobsons Bay last week, conducting photography workshops at Bayside P-12 College.
The workshops, which are designed to encourage students to enter the Pixel8 Photo Competition, help the students consider what would make a good photo.
Assistant Principal of the Williamstown campus Monica Bond said the competition was a wonderful initiative for young people.
“We’re using the competition as part of a community project and linking it to their art classes,” she said.
“It’s a wonderful vehicle for them to express themselves in the community, how they see themselves in Hobsons Bay and open their eyes to diversity.”
Art, media and visual communications teacher Fay Paleologoudias said she was very keen to get her students involved in the competition as a way to celebrate being part of Hobsons Bay.
“Both my classes are very keen to put entries in,” she said.
Ms Paleologoudias said Georgia’s workshop had been extremely beneficial to the students.
The Pixel8 Photo Competition is now open and runs until Monday 7 May.
An award ceremony will be held on Friday 25 May.
The three main prize winners will each receive a Canon EOS 1100DTKB 12.1MP SLR digital camera with twin lens kit, 8GB memory card and camera bag.
Three highly commended awards will be presented to those who show great potential in their photographic work and they will each receive a Panasonic Lumix TZ30 digital camera, 14.1mp with memory card and carry pouch.
The school with the greatest number of entrants will receive a $500 prize to spend on their arts or photographic materials for the school.
