POLICE caught two men drink driving before 11am during a road blitz with the Sheriff’s Office last Tuesday in Keilor.
Brimbank Highway Patrol conducted 953 breath tests, including a 72-year-old Keilor Downs man who allegedly returned a blood alcohol reading of .096 and a 54-year-old Tasmanian man who allegedly blew .065.
Police recorded 30 offences in total including 12 unregistered cars, three unlicensed drivers, three suspended drivers and one car with false number plates.
Police also arrested two people wanted on outstanding warrants of apprehension and impounded an early model Ford sedan after detecting a 39-year-old Keilor Downs man driving while suspended.
The Sheriff’s Office caught 79 people with 1035 outstanding warrants totalling $329,500 during the operation.
As Star went to print 150 of those warrants had been paid in full for a total of $46,000.
The Sheriff’s Office also clamped 13 motor vehicles in respect to 370 warrants worth $116,637.
Police have carried out the road traffic operation five times over the past five months, with 120 drivers caught for 163 offences.
The operation has also found 68 unregistered cars, 30 unlicensed drivers, 17 disqualified or suspended drivers, 14 un-roadworthy vehicles and 12 speeding motorists.
Sunshine Senior Sergeant Leslie Hutchinson said police would continue to target dangerous drivers to make Brimbank’s streets safe for all road users.
“It’s disappointing that some people continue to take risks on our roads,” Snr Sgt Hutchinson said.
“Our message is that police are out there and if you do the wrong thing, we will catch you.”
