Breaking down culture barriers

CULTURAL leaders from across Brimbank enjoyed a dinner together last week as part of the city’s Muslim Women’s Leadership Program.
Kings Park resident Manal Teffaha said the evening was focused on breaking down barriers and stereotypes.
“Muslim women want to be part of the community too,” Mrs Teffaha said.
“Sharing a meal together is really important.”
The Victoria University student said the night was a huge success and it was vital that people from all different cultures interacted with one another and were tolerant of each other’s beliefs.
The mother of two said the leadership program had helped build her confidence and reinforced the integral role women played in the workforce.
“I met women from all different backgrounds and professions and speaking to them gave me so much confidence that Muslim women have a role to play in the community.”
The night also celebrated the beginning of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month, when Muslims around the world spend the daylight hours in complete fast.
