STUDENTS from St Leo the Great Primary School in Altona North were taken on a culinary journey last week when the school held a Multicultural Food Day.
Prep students at the primary school celebrated the Multicultural Food Day last week.
Family members were encouraged to bring food from their cultural background, with some families also dressing in their country’s traditional attire.
The children’s taste buds were taken on a multicultural journey from tasting pakoras, a traditional Indian meal, to buckwheat pancakes from Ukraine. School teacher Jan Sciberras said the students were able to learn about the different cultural backgrounds represented in the school community and how diverse and rich their different cultures were.
Ms Sciberras said the students and their families each brought a plate of food that represented their cultural background to school, and the students were able to sample a variety of foods from around the globe.
“Everyone had an enjoyable time tasting such delicacies and sharing stories of their cultural background with others,” Ms Sciberras said.
The day was also a great opportunity for the students to invite their loved ones to share in their learning of their own culture with family members, and those of their peers.
