DAREDEVIL deeds, terrific tricks and amazing aerial acts were on show Victoria University’s Sunshine campus last Wednesday.
Students were treated to a live action freestyle motocross performance from the Showtime FMX team in the parking lot of the new Construction Hub at the university’s Trades College.
With an average of 250 national performances a year, the Showtime FMX team is Australia’s most experienced freestyle motocross group.
At the Victoria University event, sponsor Milwaukee Power Tools organised competitions for VU trades students to participate in.
One contest challenged students to power drill three screws in the fastest time, with the prize of a $460 drill kit.
During August this year, Maribyrnong MP Bill Shorten opened the Construction Hub which trains more than 500 students during an average week.
The Hub houses training for apprentices and pre-apprentices in carpentry, bricklaying and furniture-making.
The building has achieved a six star Green Star – Education Design v1 certified rating from the Green Building Council of Australia, which represents world leadership in environmentally sustainable building practices.
The Hub’s design incorporates renewable energy, water preservation, solar design and temperature technology.
Mr Shorten said Victoria University offered “quality teaching by people who care about you as individuals”.
“And do you know what it will mean to everyone else who hears that? You have the best qualifications going and it will be a passport to your future good job and financial future and professionalism,” he said.
