THE Caroline Springs community is being urged to get behind a very special family and make their life that little bit easier.
Last month, Star reported on the tragedy facing dedicated mother-of-four Makereta Matalolu and her son’s battle with muscular dystrophy.
Makereta lost her eldest son Mini to the debilitating disease earlier this year, and now she is watching little Caleb suffer every day.
To the amazement of the inspirational mother, the close-knit Caroline Springs community has banded together to organise Caleb’s Family Fun Day in a bid to raise much-needed funds for the 12-year-old afflicted by the disease. Money raised will go towards paying off a specially designed car that caters for wheelchair access and wheelchair modifications.
Organiser Sasha Planinic is calling on residents to show that they care and told Star the day is about raising money, as well as about having fun with family and friends.
Caleb’s Family Fun Day will be held on Sunday 6 October at Kingswim Caroline Springs from 11am to 4pm. There will be a silent auction, duck raffle and spinning wheel with prizes to be won and fun activities throughout the day. Anyone interested in donating items should contact Sasha at calebsfamilyfunday@gmail.com. For more information on the event, visit the Facebook page Calebs Family Fun Day.
