MELTON City Council has abandoned a motion that would have seen a concrete batching plant built in Rockbank.
At last week’s meeting, councillors unanimously supported an alternative amendment to the original motion and dumped the recommendation to develop a concrete batching plant, rock crushing facility and garden supplies outlet on Meskos Rd in Rockbank.
Currently the site, which is adjacent to the Western Freeway, is home to a nursery and concrete crushing plant operating on a temporary permit.
Cr Bob Turner said the decision to abandon the motion was based on the uncertainty of what nearby land would be used for in the future.
Cr Turner said if neighbouring land was turned into residential allotments then a batching plant would not be suitable in the area.
Cr Ramsey commended the product that was put forward to the council but agreed with her fellow councillors saying it was not the appropriate location for such a facility.
The decision was welcomed by residents who had previously held grave concerns of the impact a plant would have on nearby property owners.
At a council meeting in May a group of worried Rockbank residents made their opposition to the plant clear during public question time when they quizzed the council on how increased noise and dust would impede on their lifestyle.
